I’d just realize that I never write anything about my favorite show “American Idol”. Tonight I feel bad about the departure of Lakisha . I hope she and Melinda would be in the final. Not that I don’t like Blake thought .But the thought of having Blake and Melinda in a finalis just like apple and orange. Plus Blake can sell a million cd if he got vote off tonight.

Book I’m reading. May 9, 2007

Filed under: Book corner — jayspace @ 10:39 pm

Grace Kelly’s life was a storybook American tale. A radiantly beautiful girl born to immigrants—the daughter of a self-made millionaire—she grew up to become one of Hollywood’s brightest young stars. The fairy tale continued when she married Prince Rainier of Monaco and became the mother of two princesses and a son who today is the ruler of that glittering principality. In TRUE GRACE, Wendy Leigh follows Kelly’s breathtaking rise to Hollywood fame, as well as her glamorous life as Princess Grace of Monaco, but also records the dark side of the dream.
Among the many revelations in the book:

• How Grace had an affair with one of her bridesmaid’s husbands—then wrote her a letter confessing it all

• Grace’s romances with producer Robert Evans, tennis player Sidney Wood, department store heir Barney Strauss, with the son of High Society author, Philip Barry, with Tony Curtis, and her deep relationship with actor David Niven, which lasted until her death

• How she had simultaneous romances with High Noon star, Gary Cooper, and the movie’s director Fred Zimmerman

Gay Theme at TCM next month May 9, 2007

Filed under: Jayspace — jayspace @ 10:38 pm

In celebration of June’s Gay Pride Month, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will present Screened Out: Gay Images in Film, a month-long, on-air film presentation of the varied concepts, stereotypes and imagery of gays & lesbians as represented in classic Hollywood cinema. Esteemed author and historian Richard Barrios will serve as special consultant and co-host of the event, along with TCM host and film historian Robert Osborne, providing context for the film series with introductions on the network preceding the films. In addition to Barrios’ commentary, several prominent figures will provide their thoughts and remarks, including Michael Musto, Tab Hunter, Ron Nyswaner, Charles Busch and Alan Cumming.

The themed film series will air such classic movies as The Broadway Melody (1929), The Maltese Falcon (1941), The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945) and Designing Woman (1957) every Monday and Wednesday evening in June beginning at 8 p.m. ET.

By the way I did’t realize that The Maltese Falcon has a gay theme. May be I need to watch it over again. oops!!

The Famous Coconut Grove. May 9, 2007

Filed under: Jayspace — jayspace @ 10:37 pm

When it opened in 1921, the Coconut Grove instantly became a mecca for movie stars and star-gazers. The famous artificial palm trees which decorated the club’s interior were left over from Rudolph Valentino’s 1921 movie “The Sheik.” The Grove was virtually synonymous with Hollywood glamour – actresses such as Joan Crawford (“Mildred Pierce“), Carole Lombard (“My Man Godfrey“), and Loretta Young (“The Bishop’s Wife“) were reportedly discovered while dancing at the popular nightclub.

The Coconut Grove was also the site of many of the early Academy Award ceremonies. Oscar statuettes were handed out here on several occasions during the 1930’s and early 1940’s.

With its Mediterranean styling, tile floors, Italian stone fireplaces and semi-tropical courtyard, the Ambassador enchanted guests for over six decades. Long time residents at the hotel included Howard Hughes, Jean Harlow, John Barrymore and Gloria Swanson, and every U.S. President from Herbert Hoover to Richard Nixon stayed there, as did British royalty. Nixon wrote his Checkers speech here in 1952.

But the hotel had its dark moments as well. It was in the pantry of the Ambassador Hotel that Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated by Sirhan Sirhan, following Kennedy’s victory speech following the California primary election of 1968. We will never know what might have been…

In a movie Bobby (2007) A few scenes were filmed at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, the real-life location of the Robert Kennedy assassination, during its demolition. The wing of the hotel they were using hadn’t been touched by the demolition crew yet, in order to preserve items from the pantry where Kennedy was shot.

In February 2006, the Ambassador Hotel was torn down after the film crew shot on the property

Gossip vs. Rumor May 9, 2007

Filed under: Jayspace — jayspace @ 4:57 am

Gossip vs. Rumor Rumors and gossip have similarly distasteful connotations, but researchers disagree about whether they are the same thing. Here’s a rundown of different views on gossip and rumor:

  • They’re the same.
  • Rumor is a specific type of gossip.
  • Gossip is based in fact, but rumors are based in hypotheses.
  • Gossip is a tool for maintaining social order, but rumor is a tool for explaining things that people do not understand.
  • Gossip relates something people believe has happened, but rumors express what people hope or fear will happen.

How to pass the gas Politely May 7, 2007

Filed under: how to — jayspace @ 9:20 pm

“What is the best way to deal with passing gas? Pretend it didn’t happen? A polite ‘Excuse me’? Bail out early on plans? Please advise”

First of all, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure–if you know that certain foods make you gassy, try to avoid them if you can when you know you’re going to be in a social situation. But if you’re stuck with gas and a crowd of people, here are a few thoughts:

  • If you can hold it in without causing yourself medical distress, then try to keep it contained until you are in a better place or situation.
  • Excuse yourself and go to the bathroom, even if it is just to pass some gas. This is thoughtful of other people and less embarrassing for you.
  • If you absolutely can’t contain it, then excuse yourself, but do so discreetly.
  • If your emission is odorless and silent, then you might do well not to call any further attention to the situation.
  • If it’s silent but deadly, you might consider the humorous approach if it is a casual setting, and relieve the tension by excusing yourself and blaming the non-existent dog.
  • If it’s too late for discretion and it’s an informal group, you could add a little wit when you excuse yourself, saying something like, “Please excuse me, in addition to Jupiter and Saturn, it seems I’m another gas giant.”
